Semi-Weekly Reflections

Week 3

The author of my Creative Non-fiction is myself. In this essay I want the readers to know the factors that I have chosen to represent my identity. The genre of my CNF is non-fiction because this is an essay based on true facts and is told from a first person point of view. The purpose of this essay is to give readers an idea of what makes up my identity and who I am as a person. My audience for my essay is my professor, the CCNY English Department, and other students. My stance was that my identity has been shaped by my family, education, environment, and the media I was exposed to.

Week 4

One article that I annotated was called “What makes people share political content on social media?” by Jason Weismueller, Paul Harrigan, Kristof Coussement, and Tina Tessitore.

Some of the details I wrote as I read this article were:

  • Political discourse on social media usually focuses on traditional sources.
  • Political elites, news outlets and political influencers now rely less on the traditional means of political communication and are more active on social media where they can target their audience. (Ex. Twitter and Facebook)
  • Research found that Twitter is a platform with high ideological segregation when it comes to political discussions, contributing to political polarization on social media.
  • For other political influencers, a broad reach is crucial to influence as many people as possible from the opinion the influencer represents.

Annotating did help me because it allowed me to organize my ideas as I read the article. Something else I might have to do is reread to article so I can fully understand it’s meaning.

Week 5

So far what I have done to help in my writing process is use outlines to plan out the structure of my essays. I might apply this helpful tool when I need to organize my ideas or any research that I have conducted. I think I need to spend more time on avoiding being repetitive in my writing. If I don’t get the clarification during class time I would go to the writing center at CCNY for additional support.

Week 6

CLO: Developing strategies for drafting, collaborating, revising, and editing.

I learned this when we did the first peer review for the Exploratory Essay. I was able to organize my information into an outline and keep track of my research. This helped me develop in my writing.
